چکیده
This paper presents our approach towards realizing a robot which can bootstrap itself towards higher complexity through embodied interaction dynamics with the environment including other agents. First, the elements of interaction dynamics are extracted from conceptual analysis of embodied interaction and its emergence, especially of behavioral imitation. Then three case studies are made, presenting our neural architecture and the robotic experiments on some of the important elements discussed above: self exploration and entrainment, emergent coordination, and categorizing self behavior. Finally, we propose that integrating all these elements will be an important step towards realizing the bootstrapping agent envisaged above. q 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

An Efficient Mapping of Fuzzy ART onto a Neural Architecture
A novel mapping of the Fuzzy ART algorithm onto a neural network architecture is described. The architecture does not utilize bi-directional synapses, weight transport, or weight duplication, and requires one fewer layer of processing elements than the architecture originally proposed by Carpenter, Grossberg, & Rosen (1991a). In the new architecture, execution of the algorithm takes constant ti...

متن کاملExplanation of the "virtual input" phenomenon
We write this letter to comment on the "virtual input" phenomenon reported by Thaler (Neural Networks, 8(1) (1995) 55-65). The author attributed the phenomenon to the network's ability to perform pattern classification and completion, and reported that pruning probability affects the number of virtual inputs observed. Our independent study of Thaler's results, however, reveals a simpler explana...
متن کاملParallel and robust skeletonization built on self-organizing elements
A massively parallel neural architecture is suggested for the approximate computation of the skeleton of a planar shape. Numerical examples demonstrate the robustness of the method. The architecture is constructed from self-organizing elements that allow the extension of the concept of skeletonization to areas remote to image processing.
متن کاملOn the performance of neuronal matching algorithms
For a solution of the visual correspondence problem we have modified the Self Organizing Map (SOM) to map image planes onto another in a neighborhood- and feature-preserving way. We have investigated the convergence speed of this SOM and Dynamic Link Matching (DLM) on a benchmark problem for the solution of which both algorithms are good candidates. We show that even after careful parameter adj...
